October Pop-Up: Earth & Milky Way

Dear Friends,

NEW! 📣 -  Starting last month, I shared that I will host a small monthly pop-up gallery and sale each month, highlighting my limited featured items.

I am thrilled to host my 2nd monthly pop-up exhibit and sale on Saturday, October 17th! It is my pleasure this month to share not only with my glass and photography, but to feature photographs of the Milky Way by photographer Geoff Attardo.

October’s gathering will focus on a curated collection of glass and photographs that celebrates both the vastness of the Milky Way Galaxy and our small, beautiful, bountiful Earth within its grand midst.

Imagine with me…. you’re looking through the lens of the Webb telescope, deep into the Milky Way—toward nearby planets, distant constellations, and swirling fields of light and color. But… instead of photographs from space, these images are captured in glass.

Now, imagine turning your gaze back toward Earth.

From space, our planet reveals its own extraordinary palette: the deep blues of oceans, the greens of abundant vegetation, and the rich, earthy colors of land and stone.

In this featured collection, colors and patterns are evoked through glass, connecting the immense beauty of the cosmos with the natural beauty right here on Earth.

Many of the pieces in this month’s show and sale are made with Streaky Glass, which holds the distinctive patterning of traditional art glass. It is often created with a base of richly colored transparent glass infused with a second glass, frequently an opalescent—or “opal”—glass. The transparent areas allow light to pass through, while the opalescent glass creates flowing, wavelike patterns.

When I gaze at Streaky Glass, I sense a warm energy within it. The combination of transparency, color, and movement makes the glass feel almost as though it has a light source on the inside.

I have 3 favorite Streaky Glasses–which are the ones that connect me most strongly to nature.

These particular ones bring some of what I experience in nature to my art: a sense of possibility, energy, and leaning into love.

STREAKY DARK BROWN WITH WHITE OPAL

suggests the potential held within freshly turned soil or the enduring strength of mountain peaks.

CARIBBEAN BLUE WITH WHITE OPAL

evokes the movement and energy of oceans and rivers.

AVENTURINE GREEN WITH WHITE OPAL

shimmers with the vitality of plants flourishing within their ecosystems.

There are also many other Streaky Glasses highlighted in the October collection, each with colors and patterns that invite their own associations—deep-water caverns, energetic explosions, drifting clouds, or the mystery of ancient places.

Together, the glass invites us to gaze outward toward the vastness of the Milky Way—and then back toward the remarkable planet we call home.

Join me on Saturday, October 17th, to meet my favorite members of the Streaky glass family.
